Like Ferris*, I grew up with a penchant for skipping school and manipulating official records. (Sorry Mom if you’re reading this.) Thinking about it now, the hand-carving of a D to a B on my report card was probably my first work of graphic design, and some may argue, my best work-to-date. And yes, I’m old enough that report cards were still printed, since you had to ask.
Believe it or not, I became a better student in design school, then jumped straight into small studios where I honed visual craft from some of the best, moved into working with larger ad agencies, where I learned a solid foundation of concept and strategy could motivate a million ideas. I later found myself in the halls of Amazon, Apple, Nike, HBO, and now Sundance where I’ve learned what it takes to shepherd products, experiences, and launches very closely.
Otherwise I’m still trying to learn how to roll the odometer back, so please drop me a line if you know how. Or even if you just get that reference.
